Chevrolet

Traverse

For Release:

October 18, 1999

DETROIT - For more than half of this century

Chevrolet produced the best-selling family

passenger cars, providing spirited functionality,

long lasting dependability, high value and fun.

In keeping with that tradition, the brand character

studio set out to define the new benchmark for

sedan functionality into the new millennium.

Chevrolet Car Design Manager Joel Piaskowski

said, "In view of the strong consumer trend toward

truck ownership, we envisioned a vehicle that

merged the popular attributes of Chevy

trucks—utility, ruggedness, all-wheel-drive, and

command-view seating—with the seating capacity

and agility of sedans." The appropriately named

Traverse is Chevrolet’s concept "family car" for

the next generation.

Using midsize truck

architecture, this

five-passenger,

five-door sedan is

designed to get

noticed in traffic. It

is powerful in

appearance, higher

than a traditional sedan, with a spirited

personality. Inside is a spacious interior with tall

proportions and minimal overhang that allows the

driver to see all four corners of the car clearly for

added safety. A front-engine, rear drive 4.5-liter,

V6 4-speed automatic transmission with

push-button electronic shift control powers it

smoothly with state-of-the-art control. All-wheel

drive and side air bags are standard.

Traverse provides "versa-utility" with rear split

bench seating that slides and folds to create a flat

load floor able to hold a 4’x8’ sheet of plywood; a

"smartback" rear opening that uniquely blends a

liftgate and a truck tailgate, allowing easier access

to rear cargo; an integrated Compaq computer

with Internet access; and a remote-mounted radio

display integrated in the instrument cluster.

Traverse is designed to appeal to savvy family car

buyers of the future who want fun, functional

sedans.

Chevrolet

SSR

For Release:

October 18, 1999

For decades, the Chevrolet "bowtie" has labeled

spirited, functional cars and trucks. The SSR

(super sport roadster) captures Chevy’s rich

heritage in a new kind of crossover vehicle with

an open air sports car feel and unparalleled

storage and flexibility.

The SSR dons a

power retractable

hardtop, revealing

an interior offering

three-passenger

capability. This is

achieved through

an innovative

execution of the bench seat and integration of the

shifter in the steering wheel, rather than the

traditional floor position.

In a fresh interpretation of renowned Chevy styling

cues, the SSR incorporates a unique full-width

grille bar, wide stance and distinct wheel oriented

forms. It has decidedly contemporary architecture

-- the cab, fenders and bed are so well integrated

that they appear to be one. To create a harmonious

design, the exterior color wraps into the interior,

and the doors and instrument panel have a clean,

sculptural flow.

The roadster is more than striking in appearance.

This high performance, functional crossover

vehicle boasts a longitudinal V8, rear-wheel drive

powertrain. The pickup bed in the back provides

exceptional utility.

"The SSR will appeal to enthusiasts of all ages,"

said Ed Welburn, director of Corporate Brand

Character Center. "The design draws you in, and

the performance keeps you there."
